Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma an injury doubt for Leicester fixture

Brighton & Hove Albion could be without Kaoru Mitoma for Saturday’s home game against Leicester City.

The Japan left-winger suffered a heel injury in the 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Speaking in Friday’s pre-match press conference ahead of Leicester’s visit, head coach Fabian Hurzeler said: “Kaoru is doubtful. He will try it in training today.”

Referee Anthony Taylor awarded a free-kick to Palace after Mitoma was hurt in a challenge with Maxence Lacroix. Hurzeler added: “I saw it a little bit different, that he (Mitoma) played the ball first and we got a foul against us and unfortunately Mitoma hurt himself.

“The outcome could also have been that we might have a chance if the game had continued, because afterwards there was a two against one situation. It’s not a complaint. The referee made the decision, the decision was against us, we have to accept it.

“We have to try now to get Mitoma back on the pitch today so that he is an option tomorrow. That is the thing we can influence.”

Hurzeler is already without No 10 Georginio Rutter (ankle) from his first-choice attacking options. Eiran Cashin, Mats Wieffer, Carlos Baleba and a change in formation are all under consideration by Hurzeler to deal with the absence of the suspended Jan Paul van Hecke after the central defender’s late red card at Palace.
