Valerie Bertinelli revisited her brief but fun fling with acclaimed director Steven Spielberg.
During the April 15 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the 64-year-old Emmy winner shared a throwback photo of herself with Steven, 78. In the black-and-white picture, she wore a white scarf, oversized sunglasses and a beaming smile while looking at the director, who was dressed in a white blazer and patterned shirt.
She informed host Drew Barrymore and Ross Mathews that she and Steven dated “for a New York minute,” leaving them both shocked. “I had a ball with him,” she gushed.

Asked when the relationship happened, Bertinelli said that it took place before she met Eddie Van Halen, who she married in 1981 and divorced in 2007.
“I went up to go read for Raiders of the Lost Ark, and then he asked me out on a date,” she recalled, adding, “We were together for, I don’t know, three or four months.”
Bertinelli attended the Academy Awards with him that year and said that she ran into Sally Field in the elevator after she won an Oscar.
Based on the timeline, the relationship might have taken place in early 1980. That year, Field won Best Actress at the awards show for her performance in Norma Rae. Raiders of the Lost Ark premiered in theaters in 1981.

Decades after their split, Bertinelli jokingly asked Spielberg if he could return a bowling shirt that she left behind, saying, “I didn’t get it out of the closet when we broke up.”
Earlier in the week, Bertinelli revisited her relationship with Van Halen, saying that she garnered comparisons to Yoko Ono while dating him.
“Oh, you didn’t know that I broke up Van Halen?” she joked, referencing allegations that she split up Van Halen’s eponymous rock band. Ono faced similar accusations for the Beatles breaking up thanks to her relationship with John Lennon.

When Barrymore floated the idea of a Van Halen biopic similar to the ones being developed for the Beatles, Bertinelli revealed that she demanded her son Wolfgang that he not approve of any movies about the band until she was “dead.”
While she was reluctant to think about a potential biopic, she said that Selena Gomez should play her in a movie.
“But Selena, don’t do it. Please don’t do it,” she pleaded.
