I Don’t Want To Overstay My Welcome

Nate Bargatze is looking to the future and plans on transitioning from stand-up comedy to movies.

In a new interview, the comedian opened up about the timeline of his career and his future beyond stand-up comedy.

“I don’t plan on touring and doing stand-up forever. I want to make movies,” he said in an interview with The New York Times. “People can think, If you get too big, are you going to change? The audience is very much in mind with everything that I will make. Again, I try not to do it for me. It’s for you. I want them to be able to trust that.”

Bargatze noted that his next comedy special will be on Netflix, adding, “I could see maybe one more special after that. I don’t want to overstay my welcome. I also want to get out of the way. I need to let the next wave of comedians come up. I got this tour and then maybe one more.”

The comedian was recently confirmed to be hosting the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on CBS. Bargatze’s comedy shows have sold more than 1.2 million tickets around the world in 2024. He hosted SNL for the second time last fall.

Last December, Bargatze co-produced the holiday variety special, Nate Bargatze’s Nashville Christmas, with Lorne Michaels for CBS. He will soon star in the comedy The Breadwinner for TriStar Pictures, which he is also executive producing.

In 2023, Bargatze launched The Nateland Company, a family-friendly content company for audiences of all ages, through which he’ll produce stand-up comedy specials, showcases, sketches, scripted episodic content for film and television, podcasts, music and more.
