I’M JULIE CORNELL TWO AND A HALF TO THREE INCHES OF RAIN IN THE LAST THREE HOURS. WE HAVE TEAM COVERAGE OF PRELIMINARY DAMAGE AND FLOODING IN OUR COMMUNITIES TONIGHT. REALLY WHAT IT’S PRODUCED NOW IS THIS BIG FLASH FLOODING RISK. THAT’S WHAT YOU SEE HERE BEHIND ME IN THIS RED SHADE WHERE THESE STORMS ARE JUST KIND OF TRAINED OVER THE SAME AREA. WE HAVE A FLASH FLOODING OUT, A FLASH FLOOD WARNING OUT UNTIL 7:45 P.M. FOR THESE STORMS THAT HAVE JUST CONTINUED TO TRAIN OVER THE SAME AREA. AND UNFORTUNATELY, THAT’S RIGHT OVER THE OMAHA METROPOLITAN AREA. SO NOW AS WE LOOK AT LIVE DUAL POLL SUPER DOPPLER RADAR, WE CAN SHOW YOU SOME OF THESE STORMS YOU SEE HERE NEAR LINCOLN GETTING SOME RAINFALL. IF WE ZOOM INTO THE OMAHA METROPOLITAN AREA, THIS COMPLEX IS KIND OF ALL MERGED TOGETHER. SO NEAR CRESCENT, NOW MOVING EAST TOWARDS NEOLA, WE’RE GETTING SOME HEAVY RAINFALL COMING DOWN IN WESTERN AND KIND OF NORTHWESTERN POTTAWATTAMIE COUNTY THERE. TEMPERATURES RIGHT NOW YOU CAN SEE RIGHT WHERE THE COLD FRONT IS. UNFORTUNATELY, IT’S RIGHT OVER OMAHA. ADDING A LITTLE EXTRA BOOST FOR SOME OF THESE STORMS. 50 UP NORTH AND THEN DOWN TO THE SOUTH. YOU SEE PLATTSMOUTH ALL SOUTH OF I-80 TEMPERATURES IN THE 70S. SO QUITE A TEMPERATURE GRADIENT. THE CONVERGENCE OF THE WINDS KIND OF IN THAT AREA THERE WHERE YOU’RE GETTING SOME WIND SPEEDS UP TEN, 20, 25MPH, WE’LL GO SEVERE WEATHER IMPACTS THROUGH THE 6:00 HOUR, 7:00 STILL YOU KNOW, WATCH FOR THOSE RAIN COVERED ROADWAYS. AND AS WE GET LATER INTO THE EVENING, THE RAIN THREAT IS GOING TO DEPLETE. AND REALLY OVERNIGHT TONIGHT WE’LL SEE THINGS CLEAR OUT A LITTLE BIT A LITTLE BIT OF A THREAT OF A SHOWER, BUT MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES WITH CALMING DOWN THE TEMPERATURES REALLY CALMING DOWN ALONG WITH THE WIND. The severe thunderstorm warning brought hail and flash flooding to the Omaha area Thursday.Tornado warnings were also issued for parts of the area, including Douglas, Jefferson and Saline counties in Nebraska and Harrison, Pottawattamie and Shelby counties in Iowa. The National Weather Service has also issued a life-threatening flash flood warning until 7:45 p.m. for southeastern Douglas County and west central Pottawattamie County.Widespread rain is expected on and off through Thursday night. There is potential for several areas to pick up 1 to 2 inches of rainfall by Friday morning. Looking ahead to the upcoming week, Omaha’s Weather Leader has deemed Monday a “severe” weather day. The Storm Prediction Center has placed a 15%-30% chance for severe weather. At this time, all modes of severe weather are possible, including tornadoes.
