Salma Hayek Pinault Says Daughter Valentina Stocks Her Up on Skin Care (Exclusive)

When it comes to Salma Hayek Pinault’s beauty routine, the actress, director and producer says, “I do it all — but not too much of anything.”

Recently, she’s added a treatment to her regimen. In April, the award-winning actress was named a global brand ambassador for Merz Aesthetics’ Ultherapy Prime, an ultrasound device FDA-cleared to lift skin on the neck, as well as other areas.

Hayek Pinault was drawn to the partnership after signs of a “turkey neck” led her to research solutions.

As she experienced the new treatment, she thought, “Idiot, you are the guinea pig!” — but weeks later, she was certain she’d found her remedy.

“[The experience] just made [me] feel seen as an individual. Everybody has to look for what works for them. I definitely think this one worked for me.”

But Hayek Pinault’s regimen, of course, consists of more than a once-a-year treatment. The star, whose grandmother slathered homemade creams on her from the time she was a young teen, now relies on her daughter Valentina, 17, for skin care.

“That one knows everything,” Hayek Pinault says of her daughter’s beauty knowledge.

“She knows products that you cannot even imagine that it exists,” the actress continues. “I’m like, ‘What is that?’ And she’s like, ‘Oh, it’s a this for the…whatever.’ So I can teach her anything. She’s the expert.”

Hayek Pinault shares just how “well-read” Valentina is when it comes to beauty.

“Sometimes she says, ‘I’m going to go to Koreatown to get some beauty products.’ And I’m like, ‘Get me some.’ But then I say, ‘Get me some again,’ and she brings something different. She goes, ‘No, this is the latest now. Try this.’ I don’t even know the names of the brands. But she’s obsessed.”

When commemorating Valentina’s 17th birthday on Instagram in September, Hayek Pinault shared she was already having “separation anxiety” as she inches closer to becoming an empty nester.

“She makes me laugh all day, teaches me so many things, keeps me motivated, inspires in so many ways makes me want to dance sing and cook and makes life so exciting,” she said. “I love you sooooooooo much mi Vale 💋🙏♥️.”

During her chat with PEOPLE, Hayek opened up about how she’s preparing for the major life change.

“When you’re a Mexican Lebanese mother, it’s a very difficult thought because we like them close,” she shares.

“But I’ve been talking about it with my husband [French businessman François-Henri Pinault] for a very long time. I devoted myself to my family for 18 years, but we both know that once this happens, I’m going to devote myself to my community, to my craft. And he’s very excited for me to really try to go and explore what my greatest potentials are.”
