Fact-Check: Is Netflix Creating a New Tremors Series? What to Know

More than three decades after Tremors premiered, fans of the cult classic monster film are once again stirring with questions: Is Netflix developing a new Tremors series?

The 1990 original Tremors, directed by Ron Underwood and produced by Gale Anne Hurd and Brent Maddock, was a genre-blending mix of horror, humor and action. Released by Universal Pictures, the film follows a small group of residents in the isolated town of Perfection, Nevada, as they battle underground monsters known as Graboids.

Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, Finn Carter, Michael Gross, and Reba McEntire starred in the original, which spawned a dedicated fanbase, a string of sequels, and a 2003 short-lived TV spinoff.

The Claim

A Facebook account called “Rumbledore” recently claimed that a new Tremors series was in the works at Netflix.

“A reboot of the TREMORS franchise is coming to Netflix in August 2025, starring Kevin Bacon,” the April 27 post says. “It will be an 8-episode series set in Perfection, Nevada. While it’s not a remake of the original movie, it’s a sequel focused on Val McKee and the remaining cast and crew, with Val McKee as the main character decades after the events of the original film.”

At the time of publication, the post has gotten over 17,000 reactions and over 3,300 shares. The account has 154,000 followers and was created in June 2020.

The Facts

The Rumbledore page occasionally posts satire and sometimes inaccurate information about new movies and shows, including photos that claim to be from The Last of Us.

But there has been recent news announced related to the Tremors franchise.

Stampede Entertainment, the original creative team behind Tremors, said in a blog post that it had reclaimed the rights to the original script of the 1990 movie. The company is now exploring potential projects, including a “return-to-Perfection sequel,” noting that the film’s original name was Beneath Perfection, and other new stories featuring Graboids. However, Stampede confirmed they will not remake the original movie or revive their unused Tremors 5 script.

The blog post says that Stampede is considering bringing back Kevin Bacon as Val, though nothing is finalized. The company clarified that it cannot license anything from the first movie, such as the Graboid design or title logo, because Universal Studios retains those rights.

The company also said it has licensed Christian Francis to write a novelization based on the original script.

It has regained certain rights to the franchise but did not mention any deal with Netflix, emphasizing that it is only beginning to explore new possibilities independently.

Bleeding Cool News confirmed that Stampede’s regained rights are for new productions, not direct sequels.

The Ruling

False.
