Josh Alexander to challenge for championship at MLP Northern Rising

Josh Alexander returns to the ring at MLP Northern Rising on May 10 in Toronto, and he’s going for the gold.

After 41 years, Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling (run by Scott D’Amore) is bringing back the Canadian Heavyweight Championship. Angelo Mosca Jr. was the last titleholder in 1984 before the promotion was absorbed into the WWE. MLP is holding a 20-man gauntlet match at Northern Rising to determine the new champion.

That’s where Alexander comes in. He is officially entered into the mix.

In addition to Alexander, the list includes “The Nomad” Bishop Dyer (aka Baron Corbin), “The Maharaja” Raj Dhesi (aka Jinder Mahal), Rhino, PCO, Rich Swann, El Phantasmo, Billy Gunn, QT Marshall, Sheldon Jean, Alex Zayne, Bhupinder Gujjar, “Psycho” Mike Rollins, Michael Allen Richard Clark, and Johnny Parisi (aka Johnny Swinger). That makes 15 out of 20.

Northern Rising will feature a pair of women’s bouts as well. Gisele Shaw wrestles Kylie Rae in the tournament final to crown the inaugural MLP women’s Canadian champion. The other contest is a clash of skilled veterans between Miyu Yamashita and Serena Deeb.

Also advertised for the card are NWA worlds heavyweight champion Thom Latimer, Matt Cardona, Jonathan Gresham, and Stu Grayson.
