My Rangers vs A’s best bet: Under 8.5 (+100 at Caesars)

The Texas Rangers must feel like they’re in a scoring bonanza in Northern California. This team averages just 3.21 runs per game this season, ranking 28th out of the 30 teams in baseball. Texas has plated 10 runs across the first two games of this series: they totaled 21 runs across their previous nine games (2.33 runs per game average).

Jacob DeGrom will get the start for the Rangers in the finale. He’s 0-1 with a 3.32 ERA in his four starts, but he’s coming off his best performance of the season. He went a season-best seven innings, giving up just three hits, one earned run, and a walk, while striking out seven.

The Athletics are currently in the basement of the AL West at 11-13 and are trying to win their third series of the season. The A’s are an AL-worst 3-8 at home this season, where they average just 3.91 runs per game, which ranks 25th in the majors. However, overall, the A’s are 15th in runs per game, and their 34 home runs rank fourth in baseball.

They send J.T. Ginn to the mound, who will be making his third start of the season. He’s 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA so far. Ginn was roughed up last outing, lasting just 4 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and three earned runs, walking two and striking out seven.

DeGrom will be making just his 14th start across three seasons with the Rangers, but his last outing was a reminder of how electric a pitcher he was in his prime. Most fans would love to see him string together a series of solid outings. His seven strikeouts were the most he’s had in a start since 2023, when he fanned 11 Athletics in a 5-2 win.

However, the A’s are baseball’s best team at avoiding strikeouts, with 163 total as a team. That rates out to 7.08 per game, which ranks second to just San Diego. He’ll come close, but look for DeGrom to stay Under this strikeout total.
