SE Wyoming Could Get Over 6 Inches Of Snow, 20 In Mountains


The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service has put much of southeast Wyoming under a Winter Storm Warning, while other areas are under a less severe Winter Weather Advisory.

As of Thursday morning, both Cheyenne and Laramie are under advisories, with 2-6 inches forecast. But much of the surrounding area, including the Summit between the two communities, is facing a Winter Storm, ac;cording to the agency:


Here are the snow predictions:

A storm system moving into the area the next few days will bring accumulating snow to the region. A strong cold front will move across southeast Wyoming and western Nebraska through the day on Thursday. Precipitation will likely start off as rain, but quickly transition to snow behind the front. All locations will likely see snow by Thursday night. The heaviest precipitation is likely Thursday evening through Friday morning with accumulating snow likely. Light snow will continue through the day Friday.

Cheyenne Forecast

Today

A chance of showers before noon, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between noon and 3pm, then showers likely after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 55. Breezy, with a west wind 10 to 15 mph becoming north 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight

Rain showers before 8pm, then rain and snow showers between 8pm and 10pm, then snow showers after 10pm. Some thunder is also possible. Patchy blowing snow between 2am and 3am. Low around 24. Blustery, with a north wind 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Friday

Snow showers. Patchy blowing snow between 10am and 3pm. High near 31. North northeast wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. North northeast wind 5 to 15 mph becoming east after midnight.

A 30 percent chance of snow showers, mainly before noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 39. South wind 5 to 15 mph.

Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Rain and snow showers, becoming all snow after 7pm. Some thunder is also possible. Low around 20. Blustery, with a northeast wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
