STL City Sheriff Montgomery, former deputy take stand in court, judge waits to issue decision on restraining order

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Both sides in an order of protection case are waiting on a judge’s decision as a former St. Louis City Sheriff’s deputy requests a restraining order against Sheriff Alfred Montgomery.

Montgomery’s former deputy, Darryl Wilson, is asking the judge to grant a restraining order, alleging a trend of harassment. Wilson now works for the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.

Wilson was the former sheriff’s deputy who alleges the sheriff took his firearm back in January.

An incident that the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department told First Alert 4 was turned over to the FBI for investigation.

The latest incident happened on Wednesday, April 16. Wilson said for the second time since he left the city sheriff’s office, Montgomery has shown up at his new job.

Montgomery took the stand Monday, saying he was visiting St. Louis County Sheriff Scott Kiefer about Wilson allegedly horse-playing in city government buildings with a firearm on his person and recruiting city deputies to the county.

Last week, Sheriff Montgomery’s Chief of Staff Blake Lawrence told First Alert 4 in a statement:

“Sheriff Montgomery’s chief of staff says Sheriff Montgomery visited St. Louis County Sheriff Kiefer on Wednesday for a productive meeting about interdepartmental collaboration. It was a professional and productive meeting. There was no interaction with Wilson.”

Wilson’s attorney Bobby Bailey told First Alert 4 Investigates that Sheriff Montgomery’s team “misrepresented facts,” in court on Monday.

“There was nothing illegal about that,” Bailey shared. “People every day go out and recruit people to come to work with them or for them again. I think what happened today is what happens a lot in court. You get a lot of this misrepresentation of the facts. You get a lot of twisting the meaning of facts and of course, Mr. Montgomery has a lot at stake here. This is his representation of what he claimed that occurred as all illegal things. However, he is still continuing to pursue a matter that involves a former employee that has nothing to do with that office anymore, coming to this individual job, questioning him about his integrity, questioning him about why he is employed in the law enforcement.”

It was confirmed in the courtroom Monday that the two never crossed paths on the 16th.

There are questions if a restraining order would require Sheriff Montgomery to give up his firearm.

First Alert 4 Investigates did ask Lawrence if Sheriff Montgomery would have to surrender his firearm on April 18, and he declined to comment.

Wilson’s lawyer said that the decision would be up to the judge.

“That’s not in my repertoire to ask for anything like that. That’s up to the judge. I’m asking the judge to keep Mr. Montgomery away from Mr. Wilson,” Bailey said.

A ruling is expected by the end of the week.

Sheriff Montgomery and his Chief of Staff and personal counsel Blake Lawrence declined an on-camera interview, Monday.
