SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Tough weather conditions caught up with almost every player on the course at the Valero Texas Open on Sunday. Fargo’s Tom Hoge was one of the unfortunates.
Hoge entered the day tied for third behind eventual winner Brian Harman and Andrew Novak, but Hoge shot 4-over 76 and finished tied with six other golfers in fifth place at 4-under 284.
Harman also suffered the conditions for a 3-over 75 in the final round but still won by three strokes when Novak faltered with a 4-over 76 on Sunday and finished tied for third at 5-under 283.
Ryan Gerard rose up 15 spots on the leaderboard to finish in second at 6-under 282. Novak finished tied with Maverick McNealy.

Harman picked up $1.71 million for his fourth PGA Tour victory. Gerard earned $1.04 million for second, and Novak and McNealy each earned $560,000 for third. Hoge and the other six players tied for fifth all pocketed $304,000.
Despite not getting over the top, Hoge has now registered top-5 finishes in consecutive tournaments he has played.

Hoge, who didn’t not play the two tournaments before the Texas Open, tied for third at The Players Championship on March 16 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, Fla.
Hoge now heads to Augusta, Ga., to prepare for his third Masters tournament April 10-13 at Augusta National Golf Course.
Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
