LAS VEGAS — WrestleMania 41 will be one legend short.
Rey Mysterio announced ahead of WrestleMania 41 night one he would not be competing in his scheduled match against El Grande Americano after suffering a legitimate injury on SmackDown. He was unable to finish the six-man tag team match against American Made on Friday night and had to be helped to the locker room by medical personnel.
“I don’t have a clearance to be able to compete,” Mysterio said during the WrestleMania preshow.
He will be replaced by Rey Fenix, the highly touted luchador who debuted on SmackDown just two weeks ago.

How did Rey Mysterio suffer injury?
Mysterio teamed with Rey Fenix and Dragon Lee against Chad Gable and the Creed Brothers on SmackDown. It’s unclear what happened in the ring, but in the middle of the match, Mysterio was outside of the ring being attended to by medical staff.
He appeared to be holding his left knee as he was attended to and the match continued. Fenix and Lee were able to pick up the win, and immediately after it ended, the two stars went to check-in on Mysterio. They could be seen talking and visibly looked concern as Fenix put his hands above his head.
Mysterio was then helped out to the backstage area. He wasn’t putting any pressure on his left leg and was eventually carried off.

Mysterio said he was not medically cleared to participate after suffering an injury on Friday. However, the match will still proceed with a replacement for Mysterio.

Mysterio announced Rey Fenix as his replacement. Fenix participated in a six-man tag team match with Mysterio and Dragon Lee on Friday.
Fenix, who will be making his WrestleMania debut, has participated in only two WWE matches since signing to the company.
El Grande Americano − really Chad Gable − has been on a quest to conquer the luchador-style of wrestling, and Fenix not only fits the mold but has shown frustration with the star.
