Winter storm warning issued as system moves through Casper area Thursday


CASPER, Wyo. — Central Wyoming will be under a winter storm warning starting Thursday morning as a system bringing snow and gusty winds moves through the area.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, Thursday will start off with scattered rain turning to snow showers through the morning. After reaching the high of 35 degrees early on, temperatures are expected to fall to the upper 20s by 5 p.m. Gusts of up to 40 mph are likely in some areas, and up to 3 inches of accumulation is possible.

The heaviest travel impact is expected to be in the evening and overnight, with Interstate 25 and Interstate 80 likely affected.

Snow showers and blowing snow with gusts of up to 36 mph are expected overnight Thursday, along with another 3 inches of possible snow accumulation.

Friday will see snow showers and patchy snow until mid-afternoon, with skies eventually clearing overnight. Another inch of accumulation is possible.

Saturday will be sunny and breezy with a high of 42 degrees. Sunday will be mostly sunny and breezy with a high in the low 50s.

Temperatures into next week are expected to range from the high 50s to the low 60s through Wednesday.
